A Drift of Overtones
A drift of overtones is a data visualization and sound artwork that transforms numerical records of air flow into a visual and auditory experience. Using meteorological data from Seoul in September 1923—exactly 100 years prior to the time of the exhibition—the piece visualizes the information as moving sculptural forms in a three-dimensional space.
The visualization algorithm is based on wind speed and wind direction data from the Korea Meteorological Administration. It controls the density and trajectory of particles that make up the sculpture.
